We were appointed as the structural engineer on this particularly tight site, it became quite a challenge as the area in which the extension was to be built was extremely close to a public highway at a considerable height above the finished floor levels of the new build. Great consideration was needed in order to design reinforced masonry retaining walls to the perimeter paths whilst allowing the public highway to remain open, along with maintaining safe systems of works for the contractors.
